Synento vs Zoom Video SDK
The Zoom Video SDK is a toolkit for building fully custom video apps on Zoom's infrastructure: your branding, Zoom-grade scale, with raw media access and server APIs. It is distinct from the Meetings SDK, which embeds Zoom meetings themselves. Synento is the smaller API-first alternative for teams whose product is the recording.
| Aspect | Synento | Zoom Video SDK |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | An API-first platform where every session is already its own recording | A toolkit for custom video apps on Zoom infrastructure, with your own UI throughout |
| Relation to Zoom meetings | No relation: sessions live in your product only | None either: Video SDK sessions are private and not joinable from Zoom clients; embedding meetings is the Meetings SDK's job |
| Recording model | Built in, kept up to 30 days on Free and 90 on Pro, replayable immediately | Cloud recording as a feature of the platform, fetched after the session |
| Scale shape | Meeting-sized calls with instant replay and windowed playback | Very large sessions with PSTN, streaming out, transcription and subsessions built in |
| Browser support | Chrome/Edge 94+, Safari 16.4+ (iOS with caveats), Firefox 133+; checked by the SDK before joining | Broad client reach on web and native, backed by Zoom's client engineering |
| Pricing shape | Participant-minutes and storage, plus replay and MP4 exports past the allowance; no separate recording rate | Session minutes drawn from a credit pool, with recording handled separately |
| Agent / MCP | Remote MCP server provisions and verifies via the session manifest | SDKs, server APIs and webhooks; verification is watching the session or fetching the recording |
Choose Synento when…
- The recording is the product: replay, review and export come first.
- You want an API surface a small team — or an agent — can hold in its head.
- You prefer predictable participant-minute pricing to a credit pool.
Choose Zoom Video SDK when…
- You need Zoom-grade scale, PSTN, streaming out or subsessions in a custom app.
- Your roadmap includes embedding actual Zoom meetings, alongside or instead.
- Native client reach and Zoom's reliability record decide the deal.

How verification works
With Synento an agent does not have to trust its own integration. It reads the session manifest back: every track with a non-null start_ts carried real media, per participant, for camera, microphone and screen.
Common questions
Should I use the Video SDK or the Meetings SDK?
The Video SDK builds your own custom video app with your own UI; the Meetings SDK embeds Zoom meetings with Zoom's experience. Synento compares with the Video SDK: all three keep the call inside your product differently.
How does recording differ?
Synento sessions are recorded by construction and replayable immediately. Zoom Video SDK cloud recordings are a platform feature fetched after the session.
What about very large sessions?
Choose the Video SDK. Synento sizes calls for meetings people later replay; Zoom's infrastructure serves sessions orders of magnitude larger.
